A Facebook Exclusive Tab on Your Fan Page Can Increase Your Sales!

I’m sure you’ve seen them.  If you “Like” a page, then you can get something special, something free only for members of that page.

You can offer a coupon, a link to an exclusive “fans only” photo contest, maybe a fun template for their digital images…the possibilities are endless!  The key here is to attract more fans to your page, and hopefully through that get more clients.

You can do so much with these tabs, I decided to do a 3 part series on “How to”.  We’re going to do: How to Make a Welcome Tab (incase you don’t want an exclusive tab) , How to Make an Exclusive Tab, and How to Make a Contact Page.

How To Make An Exclusive Facebook Tab:

I should start off by saying that I googled to get the initial coding.  I then changed it to suit my needs for an exclusive download.  I got the initial code from John Haydon.  And I thank him, it wasn’t that hard, and within minutes, I had a working tab.

You have to have a facebook fan page.  You cannot do this on your regular facebook page.

Step 1 Tutorial: How to Make An Exclusive Facebook Tab

As shown above, choose to Edit the page.

Go to Apps.

Step 2 Tutorial: How to Make An Exclusive Facebook Tab When it opens up, scroll to the bottom, and add the above.  It should be at the very bottom, under “Apps you might like”

After the page refreshes, choose “Go to App”

photo 3 Tutorial: How to Make An Exclusive Facebook TabThis is where you are going to put in the code.  You will want to change the name from FBML to “Exclusive” or something like that.

Now this is important: I am going to paste the code that you will want to use below.  I am going to put the areas that you will need to change into your own links and such in red.  If you do not change them, it will not work.

I am including the code for an image, because I think that looks nice.  Wording and then an image.  Your image will need to be no larger than 520px wide.  Facebook does not seem to agree with images that are wider.  I hosted my image at photobucket.  I read somewhere (sorry no idea where) that flickr wouldn’t work, but that could be wrong, I never tried it.

The Code:

<fb:visible-to-connection>
<img src=”http://yourimagehere.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”Image Name“>
<a title=”Download from Dress It Up Photo” href=”http://link to your download“><font size =”3″>Click here</a> for the Photoshop Action download.  Thank you, share and enjoy!</font>
<fb:share-button href=”http://link to your facebook fanpage/>
<fb:else><font size =”3″>Like this page for an exclusive free download from Dress It Up: Photo Enhancement!</font>
<img src=”http://Your image link here” border=”0″ alt=”Photobucket“></a></fb:else>
</fb:visible-to-connection>

Save that, and that’s it. I also added in the code for the share button.

As a side note: you will see both the copy for the potential fan AND the fan at the same time.  It has something to do with you being the one running the app.  It’s ok, everyone else won’t be able to view it this way.

Then you’ll just want to set that tab as your landing page, so that’s where new fans will go first.

To do that: Go back to the page.

Click on Edit the page (yes again)

Choose the very top option “Manage Permissions”

Change the default landing tab to whatever you named the new tab.

And voila, way cool exclusive tab for you.
